Do I Need a Contractor for a Wine Cellar? | Video Transcript from Private Label Custom Cellars

In this transcript from a video by Private Label Custom Cellars, owner Alex Madison explains how homeowners can work with his team to build a custom wine cellar, whether or not they already have a contractor or designer in place. He walks through the two most common starting points: homeowners who come in with nothing but an idea, and homeowners who are already in the middle of a remodel with their own contractor. This breakdown answers the question do I need a contractor for a wine cellar, covering full turnkey service, ongoing design involvement, and the hybrid approach of working alongside an existing contractor.

Introduction: Two Types of Homeowners

[00:00:00.260] Once again, I feel like there’s, there’s gonna be two different types of individuals or homeowners that are gonna be reaching out.

Do You Need Your Own Contractor or Designer?

[00:00:16.400] I’d- definitely not. You can come to us for all design, all contracting. We’re full turnkey service.

[00:00:21.580] Even when they do have a designer, I’m still heavily involved with the design aspect, even with their designer.

[00:00:26.560] So the design is still gonna be something that we take very much pride in and that we’re gonna be involved with every step of the way.

How to Know Which Approach Fits

[00:00:32.840] Um, so if you don’t have to bring your own team, how do you know what actually fits your situation? It usually comes down to where you’re starting from.

[00:00:39.800] Some people come to me with nothing but an idea. Others already have a contractor in the middle of a remodel. Let’s go through both.

Full Turnkey Service for Homeowners Starting With an Idea

[00:00:45.720] So one is gonna be someone that has the idea. They just– they’ve been thinking about this. They reach out.

[00:00:50.620] They don’t necessarily have a contractor, and that’s where I come in. And we have, uh, our own team.

[00:00:56.000] We have our own team of guys that do all that stuff. We can come in, we can demo, do the whole thing for them, uh, full turnkey service.

The Turnkey Process: Consultation, Design, Build, and Installation

[00:01:02.460] That usually starts with a consultation so we can understand your space and what you’re going for.

[00:01:07.320] From there, we move into design and then into the build and installation itself.

[00:01:11.440] Because it’s all handled by our own team, you’re not coordinating between different companies. It’s one point of contact from start to finish.

The Hybrid Approach for Homeowners With a Contractor

[00:01:17.860] There’s also a different type of, uh, residential that’s gonna maybe be involved in a remodel or has done a remodel, and they have contact with a contractor.

[00:01:26.300] And, um, in that circumstance, also love that as well because it gives me an opportunity to work with them, consult with their contractor, and we can kind of do a hybrid approach, which in some circumstances can also benefit them cost-wise.

[00:01:40.100] Because if they have someone that maybe they’re already in there doing some work, maybe they’re already remodeling their house, it might be more cost-effective for them to use the other contractor to take off some of the scope that I would charge at a full day rate- … that it only might take them a half a day.

[00:01:54.300] So sometimes- … there’s a benefit to having that. Um, but it’s all very circumstantial, right? With the hybrid approach, the goal is really just good communication.

Keeping the Hybrid Approach Coordinated

[00:02:03.600] I stay in contact with your contractor. We figure out who’s handling what, and we try to keep the schedule realistic for both sides. It’s not one size fits all.

[00:02:11.520] Every project like that looks a little different depending on what your contractor’s already doing and what stage the remodel is in.

So, Do You Need a Contractor or Designer?

[00:02:17.760] So, do you need a contractor or a designer before you come to us? Not necessarily.

[00:02:22.320] Whether you’ve just got the idea, you’re mid-remodel with a contractor already in place, or you just want us involved on the design side, there’s a path that fits.

Which Path Sounds Like You?

[00:02:30.240] Take a minute and think about which one sounds like you. You can see our full design and installation process at the link below, and if you’re still not sure which path fits your situation, that resource can help you think it through.

Conclusion: Do I Need a Contractor for a Wine Cellar?

For most homeowners, the answer is no. Private Label Custom Cellars can handle the entire project with its own team, from consultation and design through build and installation, so you have one point of contact from start to finish. If you’re already working with a contractor on a remodel, a hybrid approach lets both teams divide the scope, which can sometimes help on cost depending on the project. Either way, Alex stays involved in the design, so the right path depends on where you’re starting from rather than on whether you’ve already hired a team.
